this is me now

7.27.2008

1. As a comment on my blog, leave a memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you know me a little or a lot, anything you remember! If we're only blogging friends, write about a post that is most memorable.
2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll be sure to write one about you... either on your blog, in my comment box, or I will email you back!
3. If you can't say something nice, don't say nothin' at all ☺....thats not true---go ahead and say it---see if it changes anything!

Oh, where to begin?! I guess my favorite memories of you revolve around my children. When you told me you would come once a week to help when the twins were babies--and continued to help me in little ways (well, some huge ways) long after that (including mom and me swim class and arriving at my home in the wee hours of the morning so Eric could rush to the hospital when I had Myka). The list goes on and on...How could I ever forget my surrogate big sister? (Our age span was not such that you could be a surrogate mother--even though you mothered me in many ways--let's just stick with big sister.) Love you, Meredith!

You were the person that introduced me to Black Friday shopping and the impulse purchases it inspires! We still use the DVD player I got that day (it was packed away with my teaching stuff when the housefire happened). The camera that both you and I got as an impulse buy (I found two stashed away on the floor behind a counter) is now our backup to take to Scout Camp and dangerous places like that.
Since then I've gone Black Friday shopping with my MIL while hugely pregnant and also with a sleepy 9 month old. Do I dare this year with a 2 year old and a 1 year old?!

Let me set the stage: it was a dark night, and a storm was brooding just off Grapevine (?) lake. You and I had been talking about Survivor all the way to the location of my 4th year camp out. I said, "Shouldn't the girls not set up their tent in the middle of a little gully?" I said it because we'd just discussed this because it had been on one of the episodes. You said, "It couldn't possibly rain hard enough to knock the tent over. They will be fine!" Not thirty minutes later we were engulfed in a torrential DOWNPOUR! Suddenly, we heard frantic screams coming from a tent... that was collapsing because the water had taken out the stakes and was sweeping the tent away! I remember the look you gave me. I don't think words could adequately describe it! One thing is for sure, we both found it highly amusing! I slept on a cot with my knees in my chest all night because the tent I was in was dripping onto my feet. I think you gave up and slept in your car! But I remember the spiritual lesson you gave us and feeling a little less depressed about the stormy camping trip. ;o)

I remember Lacey and I used to three way call you ALL the time. You were so nice to put up with us. I also remember a very nice note you left me on my bed once when I was away at EFY. You said that would still love me even when I was old and married to a general authority!! If I really looked, I bet I still have that note you gave me!! I also remember all the great songs you made up for Girls Camp. Sometimes, when I hear the orginal version on the radio, the girls camp lyrics come back to my head!! You were an excellent YW leader and I had a lot of good talks with you!!

I remember when we first moved into the ward and it seemed like your hair was often a different color and you had that long rat tail. I thought you seemed like a fun, dynamic person who I wanted to get to know. I was right! You are fun, dynamic, smart, etc. I really enjoy being in classes when you're teaching! (and no, not just because you sometimes throw out chocolate candy. . .) You are energetic and thoughtful and have a great family!! I've enjoyed all your kids that I've taught and/or otherwise been around. You rock, Merf :-)

I will always cherish the time I got to be a dead grandmother with you. I have always looked up to you as someone I would like to be more like. And I also learned how to truly "ponder" the scriptures after watching you backstage during Music Man. :0)
